A taste for wikis

The concept of having a webpage that can be edited by everyone who comes across it seems a bit strange to me. I grew up in a time where someone was always the responsible party. But having viewed several wikis - like the ones for conferences or for community services it makes so much sense to allow all users to add, delete and edit information. And it is exciting to think how up-to-date wikis can be. My favorite piece of knowledge was that the word wiki is borrowed from the Hawaiian language. As a mother of a child named after a Hawaiian island that language is dear to my heart.

Library 2.0

Reading articles and definitions regarding web 2.0 opened up a whole new world for me. I had heard of blogs but had no idea how they worked or who in the library community would be interested in using them. Then I read several blogs from librarians about what was working in library 2.0 and it makes sense to reach out to internet users with these newer web devices. I read about terms that were totally new to me like RSS. I still have quite a bit of work to do to become comfortable with these new web interfaces but so far I like what I've looked into.
